Why I Wrote This Book
My interest in landscape began long before I became a landscape architect. Before my formal education, I spent time in Mexico, immersed in its rich culture and varied landscapes. I later studied horticulture at Merritt College and received my degree in landscape architecture from Rutgers University.
For 20 years, I ran my own landscape architecture firm. During those years, travel took me to gardens and landscapes throughout China, Japan and Europe, as well as many closer to home. Again and again, I found myself drawn not only to the gardens themselves, but to the spaces that connected them: a set of steps that changed the pace, a gate that revealed what lay beyond, a path that turned just enough to create anticipation.
Those experiences eventually became the inspiration for In-Between Spaces: The Art of Garden Transitions
